Terms used in poMMo

Here i collect terms used in poMMo for i have noted that some persons don't distinguish between e.g. users and subscribers.

General poMMo definitions

Mailing - a Text oder HTML Email, that is created by a user and is sent to a set of subscribers that correspond to a set of criteria (see group). A mailing is savend in the mailing history and can be resent to other sets of subscribers.

Field - Data/Information that is collected from a person that wants to sign up for a mailing list. The term used in poMMo is subscriber fields and can be data like email, name, country, language, ...

Group - Filters, that divide subscribers into subsets. Filters are applied to the fields and the subscribers are associated through the data that was entered in the subscription process. Example: "All subscribers from country = Austria", "All subscribers with language = english" or "All subscribers that have checked the option 'receive emails from the category = newest products'".

Subscription - When a person enters data in the subscription form of pommo he/she signs up for a newsletter. The subscription can be deleted in case the subscriber does not want to receive the mailings any more.

- Message Template - the look and feel of mailings sent through poMMo. At the time poMMo is capable to send HTML mailings but for each new mailing the design is entered in the WYSIWYG editor. For the future poMMo is planned to integrate some mechanisms to send mailings with predefined message templates.

- poMMo Template - the look and feel of the poMMo software front end. Can be changed through smarty templates.

Personalization - The use of subscriber data in the mailing context. Example: Dear Mr|Miss Name ,

Mailing List - A mailing list connects a group or a set of groups to a mailing list name and a responsible person.

Responsible Person - A responsible person is the reference person (for bounce messages, questions) for a group or set of groups of subscribers.

Administrator - The one superuser that has all the privileges in the system and can define privileges for others.

User - In case you want to use the poMMo software with more persons than only the administrator, each additional person is called a user. The users are assigned to permission groups which contain information about the privileges of this user. The authentication of the users can be selected.

Permission Group - A permission group contains a set of users that have the same permissions/privileges to absolve tasks in poMMo. Each permission can be set individually. Example: If you plan to divide your users into 'editors' that only create mailings, 'senders' that have only privileges for sending, or 'mailing list managers' that the the extra permission to administrate the corresponding subscribers you can create this permission groups and assign the users to one of these.
